Nourish Your Whole Body Being

Healing the body with superfoods, medicinal plants, and tonics has been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions. The popularity of these super herbs has gained quick popularity in the western world due to our quest for optimum state of well-being consciously, physically, and spiritually. Much light has been shining on a specific group of herbs known as Adaptogens. Adaptogens are a classification of herbs that help the body deal and adapt to stressors in our environment. Adaptogens affect the biological stress response whether triggers are physical, chemical, or biological. These super powered herbs lend a hand in helping the body protect itself from these stressors by supporting the body’s adrenal glands, reducing stress levels and regulating hormone responses. In turn, adaptogens are plant medicine helping us come back into balance within ourselves.

While adaptogens are wonderful to bring into your daily ritual, it should be noted they are not a cure-all and work best in combination with other conscious and healthy lifestyle choices.

Using these powerful herbs and tonics in your daily routine can be introduced in a few forms. Tincture, capsule, or powder form are the most common forms of these herbs. No form is better than the other, it is just personal preference. Here at DANO we offer Sun Potion, a Transformational Food company, who offers organic and wild crafted products in single-ingredient, pure powder, and whole food form. As well as Moodbeli., who offers powders that are USDA Organic Certified, Fair Trade Certified, Non-GMO Project Certified and Rain Forest Alliance Certified.

These “super-herbs” can have a profound impact on overall well-being and health when taken regularly. It is recommended to incorporate adaptogens in small doses daily in order to see and feel an of their benefits. Making them part of a daily ritual will help you remember to take them.

Here at DANO, we believe by creating a daily herbal ritual with these healing medicinal plant powders helps to create mindful moments for ourselves. We love taking our adaptogenic herbs in our morning matcha lattes or coffee beverage. Adaptogenic powders can also be incorporated into raw desserts, baked goods, and even soups.

Here is a quick introduction to a few adaptogens we love and how they will boost well-being

The most common Adaptogen and a great place to start bringing adaptogens into your daily routine is with Ashwaganda. Ashwaganda is a traditional Ayurvedic herb that has been used for thousands of years as a nerve tonic. Its very well known for its ability to calm, soothe and strengthen the body. Ashwaganda has been used to help with stress and anxiety, inflammation, overcome adrenal fatigue, and balancing hormones, This plant medicine is known to energize and calm all at the same time, providing your body with what it requires at the moment. Take in the morning to uplift or take in the evening before bed to help induce sleep.

Adaptogenic mushrooms are a definite favorite around the shop. It is hard to pick just one to discuss because they ALL are AMAZING. But for the purpose of todays journal entry we will focus on Chaga.. Chaga, a mushroom healer, is an excellent medicine that supports body and mind. With its high anti-oxident chemistry and great anti-inflammatory properties, Chaga offers the body many benefits. It has been shown to reduce oxidative stress, supresses cancer progression, help protect the immune system, reduced inflammation, increases physical endurance, can improve diabetic health, and promotes cognitive function. Chaga is also a rich source of B-vitamins. Brew a batch of Chaga Coffee, add it to your favorite elixirs, or other warm beverages for a grounding experience..

Lastly, a favorite tonic for the blood. He Shou Wu is a magnificent blood builder by promoting red blood cells. A popular herb in traditional Chinese medicine, He Shou Wu helps to tonify and nourish the blood, hair, skin, nervous system, sexual center, Shen (Spirit), and Jing (primary essence/life force). Also known as a longevity tonic, this miracle herb is known for its life-extending and health enhancing properties. He Shou Wu also has a long history of use as a hair growth and rejuvenation tonic. There have been many reports and a handful of clinical studies demonstrating a remarkable ability to reverse hair loss and restore rich color to white or graying hair.

As with any plant medicine, it is important to listen to your body and lean towards the adaptogens you feel are bettering your overall well-being. Start small and increase the amounts as you go. Start with one adaptogenic remedy and introduce more as you become more familiar with how each one of these “superhero herbs” can support and bring balance into your life.

Vetiver Bundles-Fill your space with the dreamy smell of Vetiver

We can hardly keep the vetiver bundles on our shelves, so we thought it a good time to share more about these bundles and why we love them here at DANO.

The bundles are made up of Sacred Hawaiian Vetiver Roots and are a great alternative to sage for smoke cleansing your spaces. Smoke cleansing is simply the act of removing unwanted energies from a person, place or object. The smoke helps to remove the bonds that hold the energy in place and allowing that energy to shift into something neutral. The smell of the burned vetiver provides a lovely grounding experience. Helping to calm and soothe your energy, the vetiver root smoke feels your space with a sweet, woodsy, scent.

Beyond the magical scent of the bundles, the farm which grows the vetiver in Hawaii uses the vetiver for slop stabilization and erosion control on the cliff sides. The mature vetiver roots grow very deep and have high tensile strength stabilizing cliff sides creating an economical bio-engineering alternative to steel and concrete. Vetiver is scientifically proven to remove heavy metals and antibiotics in soil, and to clean waste water by reducing nitrate and phosphate levels.

To burn: ignite the roots, blow out, and let the smoke fill your space.

Vetiver bundles available here at the shop.

Dry Brushing- A Ritual For Self

The practice of dry brushing is a simple yet very effective self care ritual one can add into their daily routine. The benefits of dry brushing your skin are invaluable. Your skin, the largest organ in the human body, is an organ of elimination. One third of your body’s toxins are excreted through the skin and dry brushing helps to unclog pores and excrete toxins that become trapped in the skin. Dry brushing stimulates your lymphatic system, which helps remove toxins from the body. We remove dead skin by dry brushing which creates smoother and softer skin. Dry brushing all helps to reduce cellulite by breaking down the toxic materials that are stored in fat cells. These toxins are released then our bodies eliminate them through our usual elimination channels. Dry brushing also unclogs pores and decongest the skin helping our skin absorb more nutrients.

To do it yourself, start with a good quality dry brush like the ones we have here at DANO. Start at your feet and brush upward toward the heart. Similarly, when you start on your arms, begin at the hands and work upward toward the heart. Use firm, small strokes upward, or work in a circular motion. For the stomach area, work in a clockwise direction. Be sure not to press too hard or use a brush that’s too stiff. The skin should never be scratched or damaged when dry brushing, therefore make sure your brushes bristles are comfortable and gentle on the skin.

The best time to dry brush is in the morning before a shower. Dedicate at least three to five minutes to brushing just before you shower to get the full energizing benefits.
